HOW TO - Remote Control your Lamp or Appliance

How many times have you & your spouse just sat down, made yourself comfortable, but someone left an awkward-to-reach lamp on. Who's turn is it to get up and swich it off? Who left the kitchen light on, nw that you've settled in the lounge to watch some tv? Wouldn't it be great to control any light by remote, from where you are? There's a simple yet effective automation technique to achieve this, by controlling a lamp or appliance with a remote, using a Home Control Lighting Kit. This blog will explain how to setup remote control lighting, using such a kit.

What You Need
Firstly, you need a kit called a Remote Control Lighting Kit. Once place to get this is from www.futuretouch.com.au. It consists of an X10 remote, a Transceiver Module and a Light Fitting Module.
Setup
Set both the Remote Control and the Transceiver Module with the same code. Plug the Transceiver Module into a power point, and a lamp or appliance into it, and you're done!

How does it work?
When a button on the Remote is pressed, it transmits a Radio-Frequency (RF) signal to the Transceiver Module (even through walls and obstacles). The Transceiver Module detects the request and sends it to the automated light fitting - which then turns on/off the fitted light bulb.

Extra Functionality
Since the Transceiver Module converts RF signals into X10 Home Automation codes to send through the mains of the house, you can fit extra X10 Receivers Lamp Modules (to automate lamps), or Lighting Modules (to automate light fittings) around your home. This allows you to use the Remote Control (and any other RF-transmitter for that matter) to control a variety of different lights. (Actually, the Remote Control provided has enough buttons to control up to 4 different devices itself). Thus, you can use this kit to kick-off your automation experience, and grow from there by adding on more X10 Receivers - and different X10 transmitters, if desired.
